My Cozy July TBR: Books I’m Escaping Into This Month

There’s nothing better than settling into a cozy spot with a warm cup of coffee and a book that transports you to another world. Whether it’s a whimsical fantasy filled with magic, a charming cozy mystery that keeps you guessing, or a comforting story that feels like a hug in a book form, I’m always on the lookout for my next favorite read.

I thought it would be fun to share the books currently on my cozy July TBR list. This upcoming month’s collection is a blend of enchanting fantasy, whimsical adventures, cozy coffee-shop vibes, and intriguing murder mysteries that keep you guessing until the end. These are the stories I’m looking forward to escaping into during quiet mornings, rainy afternoons, and slow evenings at home.

My TBR is always growing, but these are the books that have captured my attention lately and that I can’t wait to dive into. If you’ve read any of them, I’d love to hear your thoughts. And if you’re a fan of cozy, magical, and mystery-filled reads, perhaps you’ll find a new addition to your own reading list.

At the end of the month, I’ll post a ranking for this TBR list, sharing my thoughts, and revealing which books lived up to the hype. Until then, let’s take a look at the stories waiting for me on my shelf!

As a reader who loves cozy fantasy, magical adventures, and stories that celebrate the power of books, The Book Witch by Meg Shaffer immediately caught my attention. This enchanting fantasy centers on a magical guardian whose life revolves around protecting books and the worlds hidden within their pages. One of the things that immediately drew me to this book is its celebration of reading itself. The idea of traveling through stories and experiencing beloved fictional worlds firsthand feels like every book lover’s ultimate fantasy. Add in a touch of mystery, a charming magical atmosphere, and hints of romance, and it sounds like the perfect recipe for a cozy escape.

Every now and then, a book comes along that sounds so unique and entertaining that it’s impossible not to be curious about it. For me, Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman is one of those books.

This wildly imaginative fantasy follows an ordinary man whose life is turned upside down when Earth is transformed into a massive, deadly dungeon. Forced to compete in a dangerous survival game watched by audiences across the galaxy, Carl must navigate increasingly bizarre challenges while trying to stay alive. Along for the adventure is his unlikely companion – a highly opinionated cat who quickly becomes a fan favorite.

What intrigues me most about this book is its blend of action, humor, and video game-inspired elements. I’m excited to see what all the hype is about and discover why so many readers can’t stop talking about this series.

Sometimes the books that sound the most comforting are the ones that end up stealing your heart, and Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree has all the ingredients of a perfect cozy fantasy read.

This story follows a battle-weary adventurer who decides to leave her life of quests and combat behind in pursuit of a much quieter dream: opening a coffee shop. Instead of fighting monsters and chasing treasure, she sets out to build a welcoming space where people can gather, connect, and enjoy a good cup of coffee.

Cozy fantasy has become one of my favorite genres because it offers a slower pace, lovable characters, and stories that feel warm and uplifting. From everything I’ve heard, Legends & Lattes delivers exactly that kind of reading experience.

If there’s one thing I can never resist, it’s a dark fairy tale filled with mystery, atmospheric settings, and a touch of magic. That’s exactly why The Thirteenth Child by Erin A. Craig has earned a spot on my TBR.

This novel promises a blend of folklore-inspired magic, family secrets, and suspense, wrapped in the kind of richly detailed world that begs to be explored. The story follows Hazel, a young woman whose fate has been shaped since birth by an ancient prophecy. As the thirteenth child in her family, she carries a powerful and dangerous legacy that sets her apart from everyone around her. While other fear what her future may hold, Hazel is determined to forge her own path and uncover the truth behind the stories that have defined her life. I’m looking forward to discovering the secrets hidden within its pages and seeing where Hazel’s journey leads.

While I usually gravitate toward cozy reads, every so often I’m in the mood for a gripping mystery that keeps me guessing until the very end. This month, that happens to be The Puppet Show by M.W. Craven.

The novel introduces Washington Poe, a detective who has stepped away from his career only to be pulled back into a chilling investigation. When a series of shocking murders begins to unfold, Poe finds himself at the center of a case that is as puzzling as it is disturbing. As more victims are discovered and the clues become increasingly complex, he must work against the clock to uncover the truth before the killer strikes again.

For readers who enjoy detective fiction, serial killer mysteries, and character-driven crime novels, The Puppet Show sounds like an excellent choice. I’m looking forward to diving into this acclaimed thriller and discovering why so many mystery readers recommend it.

And that wraps up my cozy little TBR for July! Whether I manage to read every book on this list or get distracted by a few unexpected finds along the way, I’m excited to spend some time with these stories. Let me know if you’ve read any of these books or if there’s a title I should add to my list. Until next time, happy reading and may your days be filled with good books, comfy blankets, and plenty of tea!
